45 Common Fabrics and Care Tips — Part 2 : Nylon, Cotton, Linen, Mulberry Silk, and Denim

Nylon

Nylon

Lightweight yet incredibly strong, nylon is celebrated for its exceptional abrasion resistance and elasticity. As a synthetic fiber, it’s easy to wash and dries quickly — perfect for activewear and outerwear.
However, nylon has poor moisture absorption, is prone to static, and can turn yellow or brittle after long-term sun exposure.

Care Tips:

  • Machine wash at below 40°C

  • Avoid bleach or strong detergents

  • Iron at low temperature (under 110°C)

  • Air dry in a cool, shaded area

Cotton

Cotton

Soft, breathable, and naturally skin-friendly, cotton is one of the most comfortable fabrics to wear. It offers excellent moisture absorption but tends to wrinkle easily and shrink if not cared for properly.
Over time, it becomes softer with every wash, making it a favorite for everyday wear.

Care Tips:

  • Machine washable, but avoid high temperatures

  • Iron at medium heat

  • Stretch gently while drying to prevent shrinkage

  • Wash dark colors inside out to avoid fading

Linen

Linen

Known for its natural texture and crisp feel, linen is highly breathable and excellent at wicking away moisture. It’s a go-to for summer clothing thanks to its cooling comfort. However, it lacks elasticity, wrinkles easily, and feels slightly stiff.

Care Tips:

  • Hand wash in cold water

  • Avoid wringing to prevent fiber damage

  • Iron while slightly damp for the best result

  • Hang to store to reduce creasing

Mulberry Silk

Mulberry Silk

Called the “Queen of Fibers,” mulberry silk stands out for its luxurious sheen and smooth touch. It naturally regulates temperature — keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter — but it’s delicate and easily damaged by acid, alkali, or direct sunlight.

Care Tips:

  • Hand wash only with silk/wool detergent

  • Use cold water and gentle handling

  • Air dry in a shaded area

  • Iron on the reverse side at low to medium temperature

Denim

Denim

Durable and timeless, denim is a heavyweight cotton twill that develops unique fades with wear. It’s built to last — but during the first wash, it may shrink or bleed color.

Care Tips:

  • Wash separately in cold water the first time

  • Turn inside out before washing to minimize fading

  • Avoid high-heat drying

  • Hang to dry to keep its original shape
