45 Common Fabrics Guide (Part 3): How to Care for Polyester, Viscose

Viscose 

Features: With a lustrous sheen and fluid drape reminiscent of silk, viscose boasts commendable moisture absorption yet exhibits diminished strength when wet. Its affinity for dyes leads to vibrant colors, though it is prone to fading and susceptible to deformation and shrinkage following laundering.

Care: For optimal maintenance, promptly hand wash in cool water, avoiding prolonged soaking or vigorous wringing. Lay flat to dry, and utilize a low-temperature steam iron to preserve its shape and texture.

Acetate Fiber

Features: Exuding an elegant, silk-like luster and a satiny smoothness to the touch, acetate fiber is renowned for its exquisite drape, breathability, and comfort. However, it possesses relatively low tensile strength and is vulnerable to damage. Moreover, it tends to generate static electricity, attracting dust during wear.

Care: To maintain its luxury, it is recommended to hand wash or opt for professional dry cleaning, ensuring water temperature remains below 30°C. Dry on the reverse side, shielded from direct sunlight, and iron at a low temperature, not exceeding 120°C.

Polyester

Features: This fabric presents a unique, natural-like texture coupled with exceptional breathability. It demonstrates outstanding moisture-wicking capabilities, keeping the wearer dry and comfortable. Intrinsically anti-static, polyester lacks elasticity and is prone to wrinkling, imparting a slightly firmer hand feel.

Care: Compatible with machine washing, avoid high temperatures to preserve its integrity. Incorporate a fabric softener to mitigate static buildup. Iron at a low temperature, up to 150°C, and shield from direct sunlight to prevent discoloration.

Polypropylene Fiber

Features: Currently the lightest among synthetic fibers, polypropylene fiber exhibits minimal water absorption and rapid drying properties. It showcases robust chemical resistance but is susceptible to heat, prone to shrinkage, and distortion at elevated temperatures.

Care: Ideal for cold water machine washing, avoid exposure to temperatures exceeding 80°C. Facilitate drying in a well-ventilated area; ironing is unnecessary, preserving its inherent shape and texture.

Fine Linen

Features: Crafted from superior linen fibers, fine linen exudes a remarkably lightweight texture and unparalleled breathability. Endowed with natural antibacterial properties, it, however, lacks elasticity and is predisposed to wrinkling.

Care: To uphold its quality, gently hand wash in cold water, refraining from aggressive wringing. Iron while slightly damp, maintaining a temperature below 200°C. Store by hanging to prevent creasing, ensuring it remains crisp and smooth.
